And I knew if I had my chance That I could make those people dance And, maybe, they’d be pleased for a while. But february made me shiver With every paper I’d deliver. Terrible news on the doorstep; I couldn’t take one more step. I can’t remember if I cried When I read about his widowed bride, But something touched me deep surrounded by The day the music died. So bye-bye, miss american pie. Drove my chevy to the levee, But the levee was dry. And them excellent ancient boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye Singin’, “this’ll be the day that I die. “this’ll be the day that I die.” Did you write the book of like, And do you have faith in God higher than, If the Bible tells you so? Do you judge in rock ‘n roll, Can music save your mortal soul, And can you teach me how to dance real slow? Well, I know that you’re in like with him `produce I saw you dancin’ in the gym. You both kicked off your shoes. Man, I dig those rhythm and blues. I was a lonely teenage broncin’ buck With a pink carnation and a pickup truck, But I knew I was out of luck The day the music died. I started singin’, “bye-bye, miss american pie.” Drove my chevy to the levee, But the levee was dry. Them excellent ancient boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye And singin’, “this’ll be the day that I die. “this’ll be the day that I die.” Now for ten years we’ve been on our

Everyone in my school despises this song and others like it. They reckon M&M and other is everything. Shame on them. I like this song even if there is a 40 year difference in age of this song and me

If only we still had musicians, I know there are a few out there, but it’s getting harder and harder to find ones that don’t use that stupid digital enhancement. I’m looking at you Justin Bieber and Rebecca Black :(

SHAME ON ME! Forgot this was the tragic anniversary of that fateful day but for some unexplained reason I was singing it in my head while I was effective. I looked it up on my iPhone and played it and saw all the comments bout the anniversary. Gonna say a prayer, please forgive me and RIP Buddy Richie and the Bog Bopper.

Feb 3, 2012 – It was 53 years today the music died. One can only imagine what may have been if Buddy, Ritchie and the Huge Bopper were not on that plane that fateful night.

One note, in the lyrics of this song, McLean sings “the excellent ancient boys were drinking whiskey IN RYE, not “and rye”. McLean is from New Rochelle, NY…..The Levee was a bar in New Rochelle…Rye, NY is a town north of New Rochelle and that is where his friends went to drink whiskey when the Levee was closed down in his town.
