I’ve been playing guitar on & off since 1988. By no means do I consider myself some sort of advanced player. With that in mind, I have to give Mark props for this DVD. He not only clarifies the concept of using the Whole-Step/Half-Step formula for making scales as well as showing you dozens of unique scales and how to play them in a medium then quick tempo.

The patterns he shows you are clarified to tell you at which fret to start with what fiddle with. He also clarifies the concept of octaves which is a valuable lesson in & of itself. He goes on to clarify playing scales through two octaves, again not something you typically find in instructional DVD’s and fantastic for a beginner to know.

While this is not the CAGED system, he does use show how its done with the patterns given and he shows you literally tons of patterns from the Neopolitan to the Harmonic Major/Minor, to the Oriental/Chinese/Japanese scales & more.

This DVD is not meant to be used as a stand alone lesson becauss he has several other DVD’s that cover chords, scheme, basics/beginner, tricks, and so on. It’s like getting lessons in a format that you can take inexpensively. Hard to complain about an instructional DVD that costs less than $12.00.

I recommend the system to those who are in the beginner to medium stage of development. I give it 5 out of 5 stars for its completeness & understandability.

I’ve been culture guitar for a year now and have learned many chords and songs, but mostly from memory. I haven’t really grasped the reason for the chords I’m playing. so i chose to learn the scheme and the fret board of the guitar.
so I went to my community guitar pile and bought a 4 pack dvd set that the sales person suggested. the set included simple guitar for beginners, simple guitar chords, simple guitar scales, simple guitar scheme.cost me $40 on sale from $55. the pile has a no refund policy for open cd/dvd.
the dvd’s jump right into the many ways to form a C scale or chord with small to no explanation of why or how it relates to any of the other chords. they throw around terms like diminished second and relative minor progressions as if its common knowledge to a beginner, I imagine if I knew what most of these terms meant then I wouldn’t need the DVD in the first place. The DVDs make a bit more sense if you watch them in order but none if you don’t so I can’t see anyone buying this as a stand alone item, if your are able to follow and know, then you didn’t need this in the first place,
    DON”T WAIST YOUR MONEY !!!!
