    Finally a CD-ROM for bass!, September 28, 2001
    By A Customer

My friend really liked eMedia’s guitar CD-ROM, so I got their Bass Method the second I saw it at Circuit City. The lessons were simple to follow and the videos had demonstrations for both the left and right hands. The coolest feature has to be the ability to remove the bass and jam with the band in fantastic songs like Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door. I’m very nearly excellent enough to jam with my friend.

Forget beginner’s books! Save your money and buy this program, the ability to play by the side of with the computer while you watch the clarification/chord progression alone is something that no book/ audio cd will ever match. The way the lessons are presented is brilliant, giving visual types like me direct re-enforcement on what the lesson is all about by giving you follow-by the side of examples, and most importantly encouraging you to improvise and experiment. I’ve been culture the bass on and off for a couple of years and while I can already play by the side of with many songs and improvise a bit I have found even the most basic lessons in this program to be very useful. I’m really looking forward to the sight reading section of the course! Highly recommended! If #2 is ever issued I’ll buy it!

    Fantastic software, December 23, 2004

I’m in my 40′s and was able to pick up my father’s 30 year ancient electric bass and learn how to play very quickly. I’ve been using the program about 3 months and try to play 1/2 to 1 hour every day. Besides culture the songs included in the program I have been able to play Cream songs Badge and Sunshine of Your Like by teaching myself.

    As for the details:
    1. There is no problem with XP. I have a desktop and a laptop and both run the program without any problems
    2. Tuner works fantastic and is very very helpful
    3. The program records your playing whenever you want. It is simple to use
    4. When playing songs you can turn off the bass line in the song, leave the bass line in, or just play the bass line without the music
    5. Tender linking lessons is painless and very simple

I can’t say enough about this software. It’s fantastic and I am only on lesson 43.

You won’t be disappointed with the software. It’s a excellent investment and you will be very pleased with the results

    Fantastic beginner’s resource, August 5, 2007

In common with many gigging guitarists I keep a copy of Phil Capone’s Guitar Chord Bible permanently in my guitar case, so I was interested to see he had written a new book. In it he takes a step backwards and addresses the guitarist who is culture to play the instrument. Although familiar with all the techniques he describes, I can’t help thinking that I could have saved myself a lot of distress if I’d had this book twenty years ago. The chord and scale libraries at the back of the book are useful (although Capone’s Chord Bible, mentioned higher than, is really unbeatable in this regard) and the included CD ensures that the student reader can hear what the material taught in the lessons should sound like when played correctly. All in all, this is a excellent package, and one I shall recommend to my students.

Diagrams are backwards, June 25, 2007

There are a lot of fretboard diagrams in this book. In contrast to every other book I’ve seen, they are all drawn as though you were looking at the guitarist, i.e., the nut is to the right. This makes them nearly indecipherable.

The book doesn’t cost much, especially if you get it used, and it has some nice tips for the beginner. There’s no depth at all, though, and there’s a lot better information available for free on the web.

I’m certainly a beginner, and hoped this book would help me get started.
In all honesty; starting to read this book made me very nearly give up from the start.
It’s not simple to follow, and the notations in the pages are not exactly for beginners.
Maybe more advanced players, or more patient beginners can work with this, but me, nope … not effective for me.
